Prince William’s reaction to England’s victory over Switzerland
After England won the Euro 2024 quarterfinal, Prince William erupted in a raucous of jubilation.
After Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the game-winning penalty in the shootout, the Duke of Cambridge could be seen cheering.
After defeating Switzerland in the quarterfinal round in Dusseldorf, England advanced to the Euro 2024 final four.
Even after scoring the game-winning penalty, Alexander-Arnold maintained that England’s advancement to the semi-finals was the most important thing.
According to the Liverpool star, who spoke to the BBC, the team shown remarkable character, belief, heart, and enthusiasm despite facing tough opponents.
When it counted the most, we dug deep. Everything that matters is that we win, even if we knew it would be close.
Alexander-Arnold elaborated on his game-winning penalty by saying, “It’s what we practised, a lot of practice goes into that moment.” My stomach remains flat when the gaffer announces that I will be taking one. It was fun for me. I only needed to put it into action, I knew.
“Every quarter-final has gone to extra-time, they’re fine margins but we’ve been able to win.”
Shootout winner Bukayo Saka of Arsenal told the BBC, “I’m going to put it up there,” following his goal. A unique experience. The way we battled back and advanced to the penalty shootout—everyone knows what happened the last time we did this at the Euros—is something I’m incredibly proud of.
“I believe in a higher power. It was quite challenging to recover from it. Nevertheless, I turned it into a strength, and I’m glad I seized the opportunity today.
Our determination to win this tournament is evident, in my opinion. We have scored a late equalizer in both of our last two games.
It would be ideal if we could win the next game in regulation, but we will do whatever it takes to achieve our goal. “I am so excited for another semi-final!”
