Prince George’s unusual nickname Prince William and Princess Kate gave him since birth
Prince George has a sweet nickname given by his parents Prince William and Princess Kate since birth that’s used at home in Adelaide Cottage, Windsor.
Prince George is second in the line of succession, but his parents Prince William and Princess Kate are keen to make his childhood as normal as possible – even down to his nickname.
Like most 10-year-olds, George has an endearing nickname that he is called at home in Adelaide Cottage, Windsor, where he lives with his siblings, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.
The surprising nickname stems from both his initials and is a quintessential British staple. William and Kate have dubbed their firstborn ‘PG Tips’ after the brand of teabags.
The Mirror reported: “Pals started calling Prince George ‘PG’, so the couple took the next logical step and dubbed him Tips.”
George is said to be a big fan of the nickname and even goes by “Tips” at his current school, Lambrook located in the Berkshire countryside.
William and George are often spotted watching sports together
An insider told The Sun about the reason behind the Royal Family’s affection for whimsical aliases. “The royals are not very good at communicating with one another so this is one way around it. Nicknames are a way of taking the family tension out of things.”
“They can also be a rather childlike family. They love to play games and they give each other silly presents. I think it’s because they have to be so earnest in their public lives.”
George isn’t the only one of his siblings with an adorable nickname. Prince Louis’s sweet family nickname was revealed during an engagement as part of King Charles’s Coronation celebrations.
The prince was snapped at a charitable event excitedly waving his sticky marshmallow stick around. Princess Kate quickly noticed and said to the youngster, “pop that in the fire, Lou Bug,” revealing the Prince’s sweet nickname to be ‘Lou-Bug’.
In contrast to this name, Prince William’s adorable nickname for Princess Charlotte has an international twist. The Prince reportedly calls his only daughter, “mignonette” which means ‘small and delicate’ in French.

This moment unfolded during 2022’s Trooping the Colour, marking Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. As George joined his mother en route to the Horse Guards Parade, lip reader Jeremy Freeman detected the endearing term.
George greeted the audience before affectionately referring to Kate as “Momma”.
The 10-year-old is close to both parents, having recently joined his dad, Prince William as Prince William as they attended the FA Cup final.
Eagle-eyed fans noted while the young royal’s mannerisms were quite reminiscent of his mother, the rest of his appearance was very much after his father, with one royal fan calling him “little William”.
