A photo of a colourful fifth birthday balloon display – complete with the name ‘Archie’ – has sparked major controversy from royal fans

Prince Archie’s colourful birthday balloon display has sparked royal fan controversy on social media – with many saying the exact same thing.

Archie was born in May 2019 and is the eldest child – and only son – of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The five-year-old now lives in the US with his parents and younger sister, and is exactly where the picture was taken.

Speaking of the picture making the rounds, one royal fan wrote that people are using the picture of “proof” that a party for the youngster took place.

A picture of Archie’s balloons, as well as two other displays, were posted by @vcballoons on Instagram.

The fan took to X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Sugars are so desperate to have any evidence of a party for Archie that they’re passing off a company’s balloon bouquet advertisement as ‘proof’ that Archie did indeed have a birthday party.”

Another fan wrote: “This is ‘proof’ Archie had a ‘massive’ birthday party. A balloon arrangement sitting at someone’s entrance?

“This is pathetic. [Especially], given it was reported Harry said they had a ‘private’ [birthday] celebration. Anyone could buy this, then add the child’s name. Even if they had this for Archie, where’s any of the guests of his massive party?”

A third user commented: “It’s not proof of life. It’s just proof that somebody went to a balloon shop and placed an order.”

According to the Mirror, Harry and Meghan held a “low-key party” for their son at their home in California.

Speaking to the publication, royal author Tom Quinn said that Meghan loves for her two children to celebrate their birthdays at home.

He said: “When it comes to her children’s birthdays, Meghan is almost obsessed with the idea that they should be quiet, very private affairs, with simple games, a birthday cake and ice cream.”
