Prince William cheers as England beat Switzerland on penalties

The Prince of Wales arrived at Dusseldorf Arena in Germany to watch the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-final match between England and Switzerland.

Prince William was all smiles as he greeted players in the stands, while he was spotted speaking to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin before the 5pm kick-off.

He was also pictured celebrating after Bukayo Saka scored England’s first goal, as well as after England progressed to the Euro 2024 semi-finals following their win against Switzerland on penalties.

Tonight’s match saw Gareth Southgate’s team bravely face their opponents as they secured a place in the semi-finals.

The game finished 1-1 but England emerged victorious after a tense penalty shootout which saw them beat their opponents to reach the semi-finals.

William was seen out of his seat and punching the air after England equalised in the 80th minute, around five minutes after Switzerland scored the first goal.

The heir to the throne, who is president of the Football Association, has already attended one of England’s games at the tournament, the group-stage draw with Denmark last month in Frankfurt.

Southgate was reportedly expected to make some radical changes to his line-up as a place in the last four awaited the Three Lions.

The Switzerland clash was Southgate’s 100th game in charge of the senior national team and his 24th match as England manager at a major tournament – nine more than anyone else in history.

Last month, the Prince of Wales was pictured laughing and joking in the stands with the King of Denmark, King Frederik X, who had taken his daughter to the match, Princess Josephine, 13.
